CATHODE - RAY - TUBE
1. Cathode-ray-tubes provide a visual representation of voltage and current wave forms. Cathode-ray tubes consist of three basic components: 1) the electron gun, 2) a deflection system, 3) a fluorescent screen. These essential parts of a cathode-ray tube are mounted inside a highly evacuated, funnel-shaped glass envelope.
The large end of it has the fluorescent screen coated upon the inside surface.
2. The electron gun has the Job of producing and focusing the electrons into a narrow beam. An electron gun of the electrostatic type consists of an indirectly heated cathode, a control grid, an accelerating electrode, a focusing anode, and a final accelerating anode. These electrodes are in the form of cylinders surrounding the cathode.
3. The cathode emits the electrons. The control grid deter¬mines the amount of electron flow by means of the negative bias placed on it. The accelerating electrode being highly positive speeds up the electrons passing through it. Electrons passing through the openings in the accelerating elect¬rode are focused into a sharp electron beam.

AUDIO COMPONENTS AND CIRCUITS
1. The audio section of an a-m transmitter converts sound waves into audio voltages and currents. It usually consists of a microphone and a series of electron tube a-f amplifiers to raise the output of the microphone to a power level sufficient to modulate the transmitter by the chosen method.
2. There is little fundamental difference between the audio circuits used in modulators and those used in radio receiver. In radio receivers the power output may range from 1 watt for a small portable radio to several hundred watts for systems designed to cover a large area. A modulator may develop a power output ranging from 1watt to several thousand watts, depending on its driving power.
3. Another most important consideration is the bar' width of the channel used in communications. This bandwidth is directly proportional to the audio frequencies to be transmitted. The voice frequencies transmitted being limited to those in the usable speech range, the channel width to reduced, and more stations can be operated in a given band of frequencies without causing mutual interference.
4. Furthermore, fr-s outside the useful speech range absorb some of the sideband power which could be used to add more strength to the useful voice fr-s. For these reasons the speech amplifiers of communication transmitters often include design features which accentuate these speech fr-s.
