PC-compatibles store each byte in main memory with an associated check bit, or "parity bit." That's why you add memory in multiples of nine bits. The most common SIMMs present nine bits of data at each cycle (we say they're "nine bits wide") and have thirty contact pads, or "leads." (The leads are commonly called "pins" in the trade, although "pads" is a more appropriate term. SIMMs don't *have* pins!)
If you need more than the 2.5-3 MB/s or so you can squeeze out of a good ISA controller, VLB is the way to go. Be aware that the controllers on the market are of variable quality; VLB alone isn't going to be enough if you need the highest performance. It has occurred that a VLB interface proved to be, all things equal, slower than the ISA one it replaced!
Take special note of the drivers: they must be stable and support whatever software you intend to use (DOS, Windows 32-bit VxD, OS/2). Without a driver loaded, the VLB interface will perform no better than an ISA controller.
When you use your modem it is important to differentiate between command status and connect status of your modem. When you are connected to an another modem everything you send to the modem, will be transmitted to the other modem. In command mode everything you type will be received and interpreted by the modem. Command mode allows you to change the default settings for your modem. In command mode it is likely that your modem will respond to the Hayes AT command set. To check if your modem works, fire up a terminal program, connect to your modem and issue AT, if your modem works it should respond with OK.

However the best thing is to call 800 from your Autoexec.bat so that it is always installed. If you have some other resident program that works with diskettes at the BIOS level, it could be necessary to call 800 before or after that TSR.
As the drum rotates to present the next area for laser treatment, the written-on area moves into the laser toner. Toner is very fine black powder, positively charged so as to cause it to be attracted to the points of negative charge on the drum surface. Thus, after a full rotation the drum's surface contains the whole of the required black image. A sheet of paper now contacts with the drum, fed in by a set of rubber rollers. This charge on the paper is stronger than the negative charge of the electrostatic image, so the paper magnetically attracts the toner powder. As it completes its rotation it lifts the toner from the drum, thereby transferring the image to the* paper. Positively charged areas of the drum don't attract toner and result in white areas on the paper.
Do not mix programs created on different FoxPro platforms in a project. The Project Manager assumes that all programs in a project are native to the current FoxPro platform. If you create an application or an executable from a project that contains programs created on different FoxPro platforms, translation of accented characters in the programs might not be translated properly. Also, within the Project Manager you can't specify the platform on which a program or text file was created. Therefore, in the Project Manager don't edit programs or tables created on a FoxPro platform other than the current platform. Thus, you shouldn't double-click on a file to open it in the Project Manager if you've enabled automatic translation in your FoxPro configuration file. If you create an application that contains files created on different FoxPro platforms, do not open the files for editing from within the Project Manager. However, once you build an application (.APP file), it will run on any FoxPro platform and FoxPro can automatically translate accented characters.
The OSI model's layering precludes direct communication between peer layers in different systems. Each layer in System A must therefore rely on services provided by adjacent System A's layers to help achieve communication with its System B's peer layer. Assume Layer 4 in System A must communicate with Layer 4 in System B. To do this, Layer 4 in System A must use the services of Layer 3 in System A. The CGI specification was created by John Franks, Ari Luotonen, George Phillips, and Tony Sanders, the original lead authors of the earliest HTTP server.
